Shirley Marie Wright Foundation Welcomes You

Hope Is Where the Heart Is

The Shirley Marie Wright Foundation is devoted to providing essential resources to the thousands of children in the greater Houston, Texas area faced with the traumatic experience of battling a parent's incarceration. We understand the adverse impact that mass incarceration of non-violent offenders causes a family. More than anything else, we know the innocent faces of those affected most by mass incarceration. Thank you for visiting our site.

About Us

Turning Interest Into Action

Dealing with the challenges of today requires problem-solvers who bring different perspectives and are willing to take risks. Shirley Marie Wright Foundation emerged out of a pursuit to inspire and support the unheard community, and a desire for actions to speak louder than words. Established in 2012, we’re an organization driven by progressive ideas, bold actions, and a strong foundation of support. The Pew Charitable Trust estimates that in 2008 there were 2.7 million children under age 18 years, or 1 in 28 children, who had a parent in prison or jail. Those are national numbers versus the state of Texas. A study conducted by Texas Children stated, "parental incarceration impacts over 92,000 children in Harris County each year, and a large majority of these children are not receiving needed services despite the trauma, loss, and financial hardship that often accompanies parental incarceration." Contact us to learn more and get involved.
